The Char-Griller Barbecue Brush helps you apply sauces, oil, marinades and glazes whilst preparing your food. It’s a handy tool for anyone who cooks on the barbecue or in the kitchen.

It combines silicone bristles, a stainless steel body and a rubber-coated handle. Each part serves a purpose: to pick up the sauce, to hold the brush firmly and to keep it to hand when it’s time to brush on more.

Silicone bristles that hold the sauce

The silicone bristles are designed to pick up more sauce when you dip the brush into the container. This allows you to apply the sauce directly to the food with swift strokes.

They’re particularly useful when you want to baste some ribs during cooking or add a layer of glaze before finishing off the dish.

Even distribution of oil, marinades and glazes

With this brush, you can spread oil, sauce, marinade or glaze over your food rather than pouring them directly onto it. The movement of the bristles allows you to decide which areas to cover and go over any that need a second coat.

Use it to brush ribs with homemade barbecue sauce, marinate cuts of meat before putting them on the grill, or apply oil whilst cooking.

Rubber handle for a firm grip

The handle is rubber-coated to provide a non-slip grip. This makes it easier to control the brush when brushing a large piece of food or when you need to reach a specific area of the grill.

The manufacturer also states that the coating provides heat protection during use. Always keep the brush away from flames and avoid resting the handle on hot surfaces.

Stainless steel construction

The stainless steel body connects the handle to the silicone head and forms the structure of the brush. This is the part you hold and manoeuvre whilst applying the marinade to the food.

Its metallic finish complements other barbecue utensils and allows you to distinguish the three parts of the product at a glance: the steel body, the coated grip area and the silicone bristles.

Hook for keeping it to hand

The hook at the end of the handle allows you to hang the brush up when you need to keep your hands free or to store it after cleaning. It’s a simple feature that helps keep your workspace tidy.

If you’re preparing food that requires several coats of sauce, you can place it on a suitable stand near the preparation area and easily retrieve it for the next coat.

Before first use

  1. Hand-wash the brush with soap and water, paying particular attention to the spaces between the silicone bristles.
  2. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry before bringing it into contact with food.

During preparation

  1. Pour only the amount of oil, marinade or sauce you intend to apply into a separate container. Dip the bristles into it and spread the contents over the food using gentle strokes.
  2. If the brush comes into contact with raw meat, wash it before using it again on cooked food. Do not return a brush that has touched raw meat to a container of clean sauce.
  3. Hold it by the rubber-coated handle and keep it away from flames, hot coals and hot surfaces. The heat protection stated by the manufacturer does not mean it is resistant to direct contact with fire.

After cooking

  1. Remove the brush from the heat area and allow it to cool if it has become hot during use.
  2. Do not allow sauce to dry on the bristles: wash the brush after every use.

Cleaning

  1. Hand-wash the bristles, stainless steel body and handle with soap and water. Gently separate the bristles with your fingers to remove any sauce residue.
  2. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. Dishwasher compatibility has not been confirmed for this model.

Regular inspection

Before use, check that the bristles are intact and securely attached, that the handle is free from damage and that no residue remains between the bristles. If any part is damaged or becomes detached, stop using the brush with food.

Storage

Store it clean and dry. You can use the hook on the handle to hang it in a place protected from dirt and away from the hot area of the barbecue.

Ribs with homemade barbecue sauce

Servings: 4 · Preparation: 20 minutes · Estimated cooking time: 3.5–5 hours · Method: indirect heat at 120–135 °C.

Ingredients

For the ribs:

  • 1 rack of pork ribs weighing approximately 1.2–1.5 kg.
  • 8 g of salt, 3 g of black pepper, 5 g of paprika and 3 g of garlic powder.

For the homemade barbecue sauce:

  • 200 g of ketchup.
  • 30 ml of apple cider vinegar.
  • 25 g of brown sugar.
  • 15 ml of Worcestershire sauce.
  • 15 g of mustard.
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika and 1 garlic clove, finely chopped.

Preparation

  1. Prepare the rack of ribs. Remove the membrane from the bone side, pat the meat dry with kitchen paper and spread the salt, pepper, paprika and garlic powder over both sides.
  2. Cook over indirect heat. Prepare the barbecue to maintain a temperature of around 120–135 °C. Place the rack of ribs bone side down, away from the direct heat, and close the lid. Cook for around 3–4 hours as an initial guide, keeping an eye on the barbecue temperature. The thickness of the meat will determine the total cooking time.
  3. Make the sauce. Mix the ingredients in a saucepan and cook over a low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring until the sauce thickens slightly. Set aside a clean portion for serving.
  4. Check and glaze. When the meat is tender and nearly done, pour the sauce you are going to use on the barbecue into a separate container. Load the Char-Griller brush with it and spread a thin layer over the ribs. Close the lid and cook for a further 15–20 minutes over indirect heat, until the glaze sets without burning.
  5. Rest and serve. Check doneness with a thermometer, without resting the probe against the bone. Remove the rack of ribs, leave it to rest for 10 minutes and cut between the bones. Serve with the clean sauce you had set aside.

Tip: use a separate container for the sauce that comes into contact with the meat, and do not return to the serving saucepan a brush that has already touched it.
