The Char-Griller Melting Dome is a lid designed for melting cheese and expanding the range of dishes you can prepare on the grill. Place it over the food to concentrate the heat in a specific area: it’s particularly useful when finishing off burgers or cooking vegetables.
It is designed to be used with Char-Griller Flat Iron grills. Its stainless steel body, handle and approximate diameter of 30.5 cm make it easy to handle during various cooking tasks. As well as melting and steaming, Char-Griller explains how to use it to create an effect similar to that of an oven.
Melted cheese on burgers

When the burgers are almost ready, place the cheese on top and cover them with the dome. The residual heat beneath it helps to melt the cheese quickly and evenly, without having to turn the burgers over.
It’s a simple touch to finish off some grilled burgers. The photograph shows the lid lifting away from several burgers with the cheese already melted.
Steamed vegetables on the grill

To steam vegetables, Char-Griller recommends adding a little water alongside the food and placing the dome on top. The water turns to steam under the dome whilst the grill continues to heat from below.
This way, you can prepare a side dish on the same surface where you’re cooking the rest of the meal. The image shows vegetables and potatoes on the grill; adjust the cooking time until they reach your preferred texture.
Oven effect for other dishes
The dome also allows you to create a cooking environment similar to that of a small oven on top of the grill. Char-Griller suggests using this, for example, to finish off pizzas or rolls after cooking the base.
For this technique, the brand recommends placing a grill rack on the griddle, positioning the food on top and covering it with the dome. The grill rack is an additional accessory: it is not part of the dome.
Less splashing whilst cooking
By covering an area of the barbecue, the dome helps to contain splashes of juices and oil that some foods can produce. It’s particularly handy when you want to keep your work surface tidier.
Simply place it over the food that is splattering. It doesn’t eliminate the need to clean the griddle afterwards, but it can reduce the mess around the covered area.
Heat-resistant handle for moving it

The top handle provides a grip for positioning the dome, lifting it and moving it around whilst cooking. Char-Griller describes it as heat-resistant, a useful feature when switching between different foods on the grill.
The top view shows its shape and central position. As with any utensil used on a hot surface, check its temperature before handling it after prolonged cooking.
Stainless steel and dishwasher safe

The body of the dome is made of stainless steel. Its dome-shaped design covers the food whilst leaving the handle accessible at the top, as shown in the front view.
Cleaning is easier after use: the Char-Griller user guide states that the dome is dishwasher-safe. Allow it to cool before cleaning or storing it.
30.5 cm diameter to cover a larger area

Char-Griller specifies a diameter of 12 inches, approximately 30.5 cm. This size helps you cover an area of the grill or several small pieces of food placed together, depending on the space they take up.
The infographic provided also shows an approximate total height of 10 cm, including the handle. It gives you an at-a-glance view of the diameter, height, grip handle and stainless steel body.
