The Weber Traveler Compact brings gas cooking to a format designed to accompany you away from home. Its structure integrates the barbecue and cart into a single folding unit, an especially practical solution for camping, weekend getaways, terraces or gatherings where you need to cook and pack away without setting up a permanent installation.

A cooking surface of 52 × 36 cm, porcelain-enamelled cast-iron cooking grates and a main burner with 3.81 kW of power. This combines a manageable size with the performance needed to prepare a complete meal for up to four people.

Features such as one-handed folding, the automatic lid lock, built-in thermometer, side table and front access for grease management make cooking, moving and packing away easier when the barbecue is part of the journey.

Compact, foldable and ready to transport

Weber Traveler Compact folded for transport and storage

The structure of the Weber Traveler Compact is designed to raise and lower the barbecue with one hand using its folding mechanism. The barbecue and cart remain connected, so you do not have to transport a separate grill and stand every time you change location.

When folded, the lid features an automatic lock that helps keep the unit closed during transport. With the cart fully folded, it measures approximately 83 cm wide, 37 cm high and 54.5 cm deep, proportions designed to simplify both transport by car and storage.

It is an especially useful configuration for anyone looking for a portable gas barbecue for camping, getaways or spaces where it is convenient to pack the equipment away after cooking, without giving up the convenience of an integrated cart when it is time to use it.

52 × 36 cm cooking surface

Weber Traveler Compact cooking surface with burgers and sausages

Its main cooking surface measures 52 × 36 cm (length × width) and provides a total cooking area of 2065 cm². It is a space designed to make good use of the barbecue’s compact dimensions and prepare food for up to four people.

This surface allows you to arrange different foods on the cooking grate and prepare a complete meal without turning the Traveler Compact into a bulky barbecue. It is especially practical when the available space in the car, at the campsite or on the terrace is limited.

The main burner delivers 3.81 kW, providing the power needed to work with different heat intensities and adapt cooking to meat, chicken and other grilled preparations.

Porcelain-enamelled cast-iron cooking grates

Porcelain-enamelled cast-iron cooking grates on the Weber Traveler Compact

The cooking area uses porcelain-enamelled cast-iron cooking grates, a material chosen to retain heat and distribute it across the surface while the food is in contact with the grate.

This ability to retain heat is especially useful when you want defined sear marks on meat and other foods. You can use the cooking grate both for fast cooking at higher heat and for recipes that require more gradual heat control.

The porcelain-enamelled finish forms part of the cooking grate itself and combines the thermal response of cast iron with a surface specifically designed for regular barbecue use.

Front access for grease removal

After cooking comes a less appealing but important task: removing accumulated grease. The Weber Traveler Compact features front access for grease disposal, so this regular task is located in an easily accessible area.

This design makes it easier to include checking the grease management system in your routine after each barbecue. As well as making clean-up more convenient, keeping this area under control is an important part of proper use and maintenance of the equipment.

It is an especially practical detail on a barbecue designed to be moved and stored frequently, where it is useful to leave the unit ready before folding and storing it.

Side table and Weber Works rail

Side table and Weber Works rail on the Weber Traveler Compact

The integrated side table provides a surface next to the cooking grate for keeping ingredients, seasonings or the items you are using during preparation close at hand. On a compact barbecue, having this support area helps organise the workspace more effectively.

It also includes a side rail compatible with Weber Works snap-on accessories. This system allows you to adapt the organisation with compatible accessories according to the way you cook and the space available.

Compatible Weber Works products are sold separately, so the rail should be understood as an expansion option and not as a set of accessories included with the barbecue.

Built-in lid thermometer

Built-in lid thermometer on the Weber Traveler Compact

The built-in lid thermometer allows you to check the temperature inside the barbecue while cooking. This reference makes it easier to understand how the cooking chamber is performing and adjust the heat when the recipe requires it.

It is especially useful when cooking with the lid closed, as you can monitor the temperature without relying solely on the position of the burner control knob.

Together with the burner control, it provides a simple reference for making the most of the Traveler Compact’s temperature range, from gentler preparations to cooking that requires greater heat intensity.

First use

  1. Remove the packaging. Check that no protective film or packaging material remains on the barbecue before operating it.
  2. Position it correctly. Unfold the barbecue outdoors on a stable, level surface, away from combustible materials.
  3. Connect the correct fuel. Weber specifies Weber Q cartridges or other EN 417 cartridges with the composition indicated by the manufacturer for this model. Check that the connection and seals are in good condition before lighting.
  4. Carry out the initial burn-off. Before cooking for the first time, the Weber manual indicates heating the barbecue on maximum heat with the lid closed for at least 20 minutes.

During each use

  1. Check the grease management system. With the barbecue switched off and cold, check before cooking that there is no excessive build-up of grease in the catch pan and drip tray.
  2. Check the gas connection. Inspect the hose regularly and do not use the barbecue if it shows cuts, abrasions, cracks or other damage.
  3. Light with the lid open. Weber indicates keeping the lid open during the ignition procedure. Once the burner has been lit correctly, you can close the lid to preheat.
  4. Preheat before cooking. The manual recommends keeping the burner on high heat for approximately 10-15 minutes or until the lid thermometer indicates around 260 °C.
  5. Clean the cooking grates while hot. After preheating and before placing food on the barbecue, remove residue from the previous cooking session with a suitable barbecue brush.

After cooking

  1. Turn off the burner. Turn the control knob to the off position and shut off the gas supply.
  2. Allow it to cool completely. Do not fold, move or carry out a deep clean while the barbecue is hot.
  3. Check the grease before folding. Inspect the front catch pan and drip tray and remove accumulated grease when necessary.

Cleaning

  • Cooking grates: brush off any stuck-on residue with a suitable barbecue brush. The Weber manual recommends doing this with the cooking grates installed.
  • Inside of the lid: periodically remove carbonised grease to prevent deposits from building up and falling onto the food.
  • Cookbox: remove accumulated residue from the sides and bottom and direct it towards the grease collection system.
  • Grease management system: clean the removable catch pan and replace the drip tray when necessary.
  • Porcelain-enamelled, painted and plastic surfaces: use warm soapy water and a suitable cloth or paper towel; then rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Do not use abrasive products. Weber advises against using oven cleaners, abrasive sponges, products containing acids, solvents or other aggressive cleaning products on the barbecue.

Periodic maintenance

  • Carry out a deep clean before long periods of storage and before storing it folded in an upright position.
  • As a general reference for the Traveler range, Weber recommends a deep clean at least twice a year; with frequent use, it may be necessary approximately every three months.
  • Keep the burner ports and air inlet clean. When cleaning the burner, do not use the same brush previously used on the cooking grates.
  • Do not insert sharp objects into the burner ports.
  • Regularly check the condition of the cleaning brush and replace it if it shows excessive wear or loose bristles.

Folding, transport and storage

Dimensions of the Weber Traveler Compact with the cart folded
  1. Wait until it is completely cool. Before folding it, also check that the burner is switched off.
  2. Disconnect the gas cartridge. The Weber manual indicates disconnecting it before transporting the barbecue or storing it indoors. Do not store or transport disconnected cartridges inside the barbecue itself.
  3. Fold the cart in a controlled manner. Guide the frame throughout the entire movement instead of allowing the mechanism to close freely.
  4. Check the lock. Once folded, check that the lid and cart locking system is properly secured before moving it.
  5. Move it using its wheels. Do not lift the barbecue using the lid handle.
  6. Take advantage of its compact format. With the cart folded, it measures approximately 83 cm wide × 37 cm high × 54.5 cm deep. Store it clean and do not place other objects on top.

Glazed chicken wings on the Weber Traveler Compact

Glazed chicken wings cooked on a portable gas barbecue

A simple recipe to make the most of the temperature control, lid and porcelain-enamelled cast-iron cooking grates of the Weber Traveler Compact. First we sear the wings, then reduce the heat to finish cooking while the glaze caramelises.

Servings: 4 people · Barbecue temperature: 180–230 °C · Cooking: approximately 12–16 minutes, adjusting the time according to the size of the wings.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 60 ml ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Hot sauce to taste
  • Salt and black pepper

Preparation

1. Prepare the glaze. Mix the ketchup, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, paprika, garlic and as much hot sauce as you prefer. Set aside a clean portion to apply during the final minutes of cooking.

2. Prepare the wings. Dry them thoroughly, add the olive oil and season with salt and pepper. A dry surface will help the hot cooking grates sear the chicken more effectively before adding the glaze.

3. Preheat the Traveler Compact. Light the barbecue with the lid open and, once lit, close it to bring the interior to a moderate temperature of approximately 180–230 °C. Use the built-in lid thermometer as a reference.

4. Sear the wings. Arrange them on the cooking grates, leaving some space between them. Cook with the lid closed and turn them to brown both sides, controlling the heat to prevent the skin from burning.

5. Glaze and finish cooking. Reduce the burner intensity and brush the wings with the reserved glaze. Close the lid again and continue cooking, turning them when necessary. Apply another thin layer of sauce towards the end to achieve a glossy, caramelised surface without burning the sugars.

6. Check and serve. The most reliable reference is to check the temperature at the thickest part of the meat without touching the bone. Aim for approximately 75 °C internal temperature. Remove the wings, allow them to rest for a few minutes and serve them with the remaining glaze that you kept separate from the raw chicken.
