The Krafted™ – Kamado Joe Tongs are designed for those looking for a high-quality tool with which to handle food with precision around the barbecue. Their design allows you to move from delicate pieces to heartier cuts without changing utensils.

They’re also a great option for the kitchen when you need a pair of long, sturdy tongs. Every detail is designed with a specific use in mind: picking up food, resting it on the tongs, storing them and cleaning them when you’re finished.

Serrated teeth

The ends feature serrated teeth that help keep food secure whilst you turn, remove or serve it. Their grip is designed to be firm without compromising on delicacy.

This means you can work just as easily with fish that requires care as with a thick cut of meat. The close-up in the image shows the shape of the teeth and the surface that comes into contact with the food.

Spring-loaded opening

The spring-loaded mechanism makes opening and closing the tongs effortless with every movement. This is particularly handy when you’re turning several pieces of food or adjusting their position on the grill.

The front view shows the full opening range of the tongs. The spring makes this repeated action during cooking smoother, so you can concentrate on handling each piece.

Locking mechanism and hook

The locking pin keeps the tongs folded away when not in use. This means they take up less space in a drawer or alongside your other barbecue utensils.

At the same end, they feature a hook for hanging. You can keep them organised and to hand near your work area; the photograph shows both details up close.

45.75 cm

With a total length of 45.75 cm, the tongs allow you to reach food whilst keeping your hands further away from the heat source. This is useful when working over a hot grill.

This length also gives you room to turn or remove pieces without getting too close to the cooking surface. The infographic shows the measurements and highlights the main features of the tool.

Support notch that raises the head

When you need to set the tongs down on a surface for a moment, their support notch keeps the head raised. This feature is designed for those normal breaks whilst you’re cooking.

The image shows how they sit on the barbecue’s side table: the working ends remain raised rather than resting flat on it.

High-strength stainless steel

Kamado Joe manufactures these tongs from high-strength Krafted™ stainless steel, designed to deliver long-lasting performance as a frequently used utensil.

The side view reveals their solid construction and the brand’s signature finish, with dimples in the grip area and red detailing. These are design features of these tongs, without the need to attribute a steel grade that the manufacturer does not specify.

Dishwasher-safe

According to Kamado Joe, the tongs are fully dishwasher-safe. After cooking, you can simply include them in your usual washing-up routine without having to wash them by hand.

This is a practical advantage for a tool that comes into direct contact with food throughout the cooking process. The photograph also shows other utensils from the range; this product description relates solely to the tongs.

Kamado Joe Krafted tongs placed in the dishwasher basket First use

  1. Remove the packaging and clean the parts that will come into contact with food.
  2. Check that the tongs open and close normally and that the locking pin works before bringing them near the cooking grate.

During cooking

  1. Release the lock and hold the tongs by the handle. The spring-loaded mechanism makes repeated opening and closing movements easier.
  2. Use the serrated teeth to grip, turn or remove food, adjusting the pressure to suit the item.
  3. When taking a break, rest them on a stable surface using the notch that keeps the head raised.

After cooking

  • Allow them to cool if they have been exposed to heat and remove any food residue before storing them.
  • Clean them after use, especially if they have been in contact with raw food.

Cleaning

If washing them by hand, clean the teeth and any areas where food residue may remain thoroughly. Allow them to dry before storing.

Maintenance

  • Periodically check that the spring allows the tongs to open and close normally.
  • Check that the locking pin engages correctly and that the teeth are not deformed before using them again.

Storage

Spiced grilled salmon

A recipe designed to make use of the secure grip provided by the Kamado Joe Krafted™ Tongs when turning and removing a fish fillet from the cooking grate.

Grilled salmon fillet being removed with Kamado Joe Krafted tongs

Servings: 2

Preparation: 10 minutes

Cooking time: depends on the thickness of the fillets; check the internal temperature with a thermometer.

Ingredients

  • 2 salmon fillets, approximately 180–200 g each
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Prepare the barbecue. Stabilise the kamado at around 205–220 °C. Clean the cooking grate and lightly oil it to help reduce sticking.
  2. Season the salmon. Pat the surface of the fillets dry. Mix the paprika, garlic, salt and pepper, then coat the fish with the oil and seasoning.
  3. Brown the first side. Place the fillets on the cooking grate and allow a crust to form without moving them constantly. The time will depend on the thickness of the fillets and the actual intensity of the heat.
  4. Turn carefully. Once the salmon releases from the cooking grate, gently grip it at the sides with the tongs and turn it over. If the fillet is large or delicate, support it underneath with a spatula.
  5. Finish cooking. Continue cooking over more moderate heat until the centre reaches 63 °C. Measure the temperature at the thickest part with a cooking thermometer.
  6. Serve. Remove the salmon with the tongs without squeezing the flesh more than necessary. The surface should be golden, as shown in the image.
