Char-Griller stainless steel skewers comprise four reusable skewers for grilling meat, vegetables, fish and other combinations. Their flat design, loop handles and bevelled tips make it easy to assemble and handle each skewer comfortably.

They are a practical choice for anyone who cooks skewers frequently and wants to move away from single-use skewers. When you’ve finished, they can be washed in the dishwasher and will be ready for the next barbecue.

Wide, flat design

Each skewer features a wide, flat surface onto which the ingredients are threaded. This shape offers more support than a round skewer and helps keep the pieces in place when you turn the skewer over on the grill.

Char-Griller describes this surface as non-stick. You can use it to combine pieces of meat, fish or vegetables and turn them over whilst cooking without relying on a single-use skewer.

Beveled tips

The ends have a bevelled cut, as shown in the product details. Their shape allows you to insert the skewer into the ingredients when assembling the kebabs.

Thread pieces of similar size onto the skewer so that you can place them on the grill and turn them together. Handle the tips with care: they are metal ends designed to pierce food.

Loop handles

The end opposite the tip features a loop-shaped stainless steel handle. This provides a clear grip for picking up each skewer, placing it on the grill and turning it whilst cooking.

This shape is also handy when removing them to serve. As the handles are metal and may become hot during use, handle them with suitable gloves or tongs.

Stainless steel

The skewers are made from stainless steel. Char-Griller highlights the durability of this material in a utensil designed to be returned to the barbecue after every use.

If you regularly prepare skewers, you can keep the same set and change the ingredients for each meal: from vegetables and fish to various meats. It is a reusable alternative to disposable skewers, with no need to specify a particular lifespan.

Dishwasher-safe after every use

After cooking, you can wash these stainless steel skewers in the dishwasher: the manufacturer confirms they are dishwasher-safe. This means you don’t need to throw the skewers away or prepare a new set for the next time.

Allow them to cool before handling and remove any stuck-on food residue. Once clean, you can store them and reuse them for your next grilled dish.

Four skewers

The set includes four separate skewers. You can prepare several portions or set aside some skewers for meat and others for vegetables, rather than threading foods with different cooking times onto a single skewer.

This arrangement allows you to remove each skewer once its ingredients are ready. You can also put together four different combinations so that each diner can choose their own.

First use

  1. Wash all four skewers with soap and water, rinse them and dry them before bringing them into contact with food.
  2. Check that the tips and handles are in good condition. Handle the bevelled ends carefully when threading ingredients onto the skewers.

During cooking

  1. Thread similarly sized pieces onto each skewer and leave a small gap between them to help them cook evenly. If the ingredients require different cooking times, place them on separate skewers.
  2. Position the skewers crossways or diagonally across the grill bars so that they remain securely in place.
  3. Turn them using the handles with suitable gloves or tongs. The skewers are made of metal and may become hot; do not touch the handles with bare hands while cooking.

After cooking

  1. Remove the skewers using gloves or tongs and place the cooked food on a clean plate, separate from any plate that has held raw ingredients.
  2. Allow the skewers to cool before removing food residue and washing them.

Cleaning

  1. The skewers can be placed in the dishwasher. To wash them by hand, use soapy water and a soft sponge, then rinse thoroughly.
  2. If food residue is stuck to the surface, allow it to soften in soapy water before removing it. Avoid ordinary steel wool and abrasive cleaners, as these can scratch or contaminate the surface.
  3. Dry the skewers before storing them, especially if your water tends to leave limescale marks.

Maintenance

Check the tips and handles from time to time. For routine care of the stainless steel, simply keep it clean; avoid leaving bleach-based products in contact with the metal.

Storage

Store all four skewers clean and dry in a protected place. Position them so that the pointed ends are not exposed when reaching for other utensils.

South African chicken, curry and apricot sosaties

A sweet, spiced and slightly tangy combination cooked over the barbecue. Makes 4 generous skewers; prepare the marinade the day before.

Ingredients

  • 600 g boneless, skinless chicken thighs.
  • 1 medium onion: half finely chopped and half cut into wedges.
  • 8 dried apricots.
  • 1 tablespoon oil.
  • 1 tablespoon mild curry powder.
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric.
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped.
  • 60 ml apricot jam.
  • 30 ml vinegar.
  • Salt to taste.

Preparation

  1. Prepare the marinade. Gently fry the chopped half of the onion in the oil until softened. Add the curry powder, turmeric and garlic, then stir for one minute. Add the apricot jam, vinegar and salt. Cook for a further two minutes, then allow to cool completely.
  2. Marinate the chicken. Cut it into evenly sized pieces, mix with the cooled marinade and leave covered in the fridge overnight.
  3. Assemble the four skewers. Alternate pieces of chicken, dried apricot and onion wedges. Leave a small gap between the pieces to allow the heat to circulate. As these are metal skewers, they do not need soaking.
  4. Cook over medium heat. Place the skewers on the barbecue and turn them frequently. As a guide, they should take around 12–15 minutes, depending on the size of the pieces and the heat of the barbecue. Keep an eye on the apricot to prevent it from burning.
  5. Check and serve. Measure the centre of the thickest piece of chicken: it should reach 74 °C. Remove the skewers using gloves or tongs and serve hot.
